The Commodity Trap

If You Recognize Any of These, You’re Losing Ground.

Every seller sourcing from generic platforms eventually hits the same wall. Here’s what it looks like.

01

Margin Compression

You raised prices. Someone listed the same product $2 cheaper within a week. You dropped prices back. Your margins quietly erode every quarter.

02

Interchangeable Reviews

Your 4.4-star reviews look identical to 50 other listings. Customers can’t tell you apart. No loyalty, no repeat purchase, no word-of-mouth.

03

No Defensible Moat

Your ad spend trains competitors. They see what’s working, source the same factory, undercut you. You’re running faster to stay in place.

The fix isn’t better ads or lower prices. It’s owning products nobody else can source.

The Other Side

What Happens When You Own Your Products.

Pricing Power

Premium Prices Without Losing Volume

When your product can’t be cross-referenced on 100 other listings, you set the anchor price. Customers pay for differentiation, not for a commodity. Brands we work with typically see 28–45% higher AOV after moving from resale to private label.

Brand Equity

Customers Who Remember Your Name

Branded unboxing, logo-printed packaging, thoughtful inserts — every order becomes a marketing asset. Our custom brands see 2.8x higher repeat purchase rate than their generic-sourced competitors.

Category Leadership

You Become the Name in Your Niche

When your product has a feature nobody else has, you become the reference. Reviewers compare others to you. Competitors copy you — but they’re always behind. You own the category narrative.

How It Works

7 Stages From Idea to Mass Production.

Same process we’ve run 500+ times. Transparent timelines, photo proof at every stage, you approve before anything advances.

Stage 01

Brief Intake

30–60 minute call to understand your brand, category, target price, differentiation thesis. You walk away with a written development plan.

Stage 02

Spec Definition

Engineering drawings, material selection, feature list, compliance targets. Every variable documented so factories bid against the same spec.

Stage 03

Factory Match

We select 2–3 factories from our 2,300+ network based on your category, MOQ, and timeline. You see factory names, audit history, capacity.

Stage 04

Prototype & Iterate

First prototypes in 7–14 days. You test, we refine. 2–3 iteration cycles typical. Zero production commitment until you sign off.

Stage 05

Mould & Tooling

For OEM products: custom moulds built to your design. Mould ownership documented in your contract. Moulds physically stored with factory names on your file.

Stage 06

Pilot Run

100–500 unit pilot. Validates production-line quality. User testing if relevant. Final adjustments before full production.

Stage 07

Mass Production

Full-volume manufacturing with inline QC. Weekly progress reports. Photo/video documentation. Direct shipping to our warehouse or your destination.

Risk Reversal · IP Protection

Your Design. Your Mould. Your Product.

Every OEM/ODM engagement includes a signed NDA, a documented IP transfer agreement, and factory-level confidentiality contracts. Mould ownership is legally yours. We can help you file utility patents or design patents in your target market. If a factory ever manufactures your design for another party, we cover legal costs to resolve it.

Your Questions Answered

Common Questions from Scaling Brand Owners.

What’s the real difference between Private Label, OEM, and ODM?

Private Label: The factory’s existing product with your logo, packaging, and minor variations. Fastest path. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer): You provide the spec, drawings, or reference. Factory builds to your exact design. You own the IP. ODM (Original Design Manufacturer): We design the product to your brief. You brand it as yours. Middle ground between private label and full OEM. See our OEM/ODM page for detail.

Do I really own the IP of products we develop together?

Yes. For OEM and Product Development engagements, you own the design, the mould tooling, and the IP rights. It’s documented in our service agreement on day one. For Private Label products — those remain the factory’s catalog items with your branding, so design exclusivity isn’t guaranteed (but your brand is).

What are realistic MOQs?

Private Label: 50–100 units per SKU. OEM: 300–500 units depending on category. ODM: typically 500 units. Product Development with custom moulds: 1,000+ units to amortize tooling costs. We can run smaller pilot batches for a premium, usually $500–$1,500 for validation before committing to full MOQ.

How is customization priced?

Unit cost + one-time mould / tooling fees (simple moulds $500–$1,500, complex multi-cavity moulds $3,000–$8,000) + sample fees (often free for qualified clients, otherwise $150–$300). No hidden markups. All factory quotes visible in your contract. You pay the factory price through us plus a transparent service fee.

What categories do you specialize in?

Electronics, beauty & personal care, fashion & apparel, home & kitchen, sports & outdoor, health & wellness, pet supplies, baby & kids. Full breakdown with factory counts per category on our Product Sourcing page.

How fast can I actually launch a custom product?

Private Label: 14 days from kickoff to first shipment. OEM with existing moulds: 30–45 days. Full product development with custom tooling: 60–120 days typical. Our 500-client average is 23 days concept-to-market across all paths combined. Your specific timeline is committed in writing before work starts.

What if the factory manufactures my product for a competitor?

Our factory contracts include exclusivity clauses. Factories are contractually prohibited from manufacturing your design for other parties. If a breach ever occurs, we cover legal costs to pursue resolution. This is specifically why we sign factory NDAs on day one — not on the first production run.

Can I see the mould? Where is it stored?

Yes. Mould ownership transfers to you on full payment. Physical mould is stored at the factory that produces your product (documented in your contract with the factory’s name, address, and mould ID). You can visit. You can relocate. You can even transfer the mould to a different factory if relationships change — it’s your property.
